Spain international forward Diego Costa looks to be the person causing trouble at Premier League Champions Chelsea, despite having joined Atletico Madrid two months ago.
According to reports, Brazil international defender David Luiz believes that his present spat with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte can be traced back to his Diego Costa, his former team-mate.
David Luiz was dropped from the Matchday squad for the Manchester United clash on Sunday. This followed a reported dressing down from the Italian during a team meeting last week Thursday, during which the tactician picked on the Brazilian for his display in the recent UEFA Champions League loss to AS Roma.
After the 1-0 victory over Premier League rivals Manchester United, Antonio Conte failed to guarantee the defender’s future at the West London club. The Times claimed that David Luiz fears his relationship with Diego Costa is being used against him.
The duo were great friends during their shared playing time at Stamford Bridge with David Luiz many times trying to settle rifts between the manager and the striker before their relationship got totally irreparable. David Luiz and Diego Costa remain very close.
The Times adds that sources at Stamford Bridge deny that the defender’s friendship with the Atletico striker has anything to do with the current rift.
Yesterday the defender pasted a message on social media saying: ‘Life is great! Thank you and all my [Luiz] fans.’
