Many Chelsea fans were delighted when, after it was 5 pm, Eden Hazard was still at Stamford Bridge.

The talented player was heavily linked with a move away from the club for much of the summer, but he remains a Chelsea player after the close of the transfer window.

Champions League winners Real Madrid have been chasing the Belgian for many years and were reportedly set to splash the huge cash to bring him down to the Bernabeu.

Hazard has just two years left on his current contract at West London and has been shying away from putting pen to paper for a new deal. But it appears he will eventually commit his future to Chelsea if the management offered him a new buoyant deal.

Despite losing out on Hazard, Real Madrid achieved success in their attempt to sign goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before the end of the summer transfer window.

Perhaps, Hazard will have also found himself at the Bernabeu if not for the intervention of a key figure at Stamford Bridge.
