Paul Ince: Jose Mourinho Has Now Fixed The Mistakes Made By These Two Previous United Managers
Paul Ince credits Jose Mourinho with getting United back on track
Manchester United legend Paul Ince has paid credit to United current Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho for getting the club back on track following the reigns of the duo of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
The Old Trafford club will take part in their first cup final under the new coach on Sunday afternoon when they look to beat Southampton FC in the EFL Cup final.
So far so good, the red devils have made good progress in both the Europa League and the FA Cup over the past week after a 2-1 victory at Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round. And they also eased to a 4-0 aggregate win against Saint-Etienne to set up a last-16 clash with Russian side FC Rostov in the Europa League.
Former Everton boss David Moyes was appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor back then in 2013 after Manchester United won their 13th Premier League campaign. Moyes was however sacked less than 12 months later.
Moyes’s Dutch successor Van Gaal, led the club to FA Cup glory last season but was still sacked after a fifth-place finish in the Premier League table.
And speaking to Paddy Power, former midfielder Ince heaped praise on Mourinho for the progress made under the Portuguese manager.
“If there is one things team should have learned, it is to never underestimate Man United.
“Louis van Gaal was a mistake, the way he played football wasn’t right for United. There is an expectation as a Man United manager that both he and David Moyes couldn’t meet. If you want to be a player or a manager at that club you need to be able to meet those expectations and win week in, week out.
“United have been playing catch-up since Ferguson left, and you can see Mourinho getting them back on track.” he attested.
