Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has asked his former club to make a move for Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte and snatch the player away from Man City’s grips.
Pep Guardiola has been trying to bring the defender to England since he became boss at the Etihad Stadium, and it appears a deal for the 23-year-old is getting closer.
The premier league leaders are understood to be interested in signing former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, but it appears the Northern Ireland international will join Arsenal instead, prompting Guardiola to focus fully on Laporte.
But Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes his former side still have a chance to compete with Man City for the defender’s signature, and he has urged manager Jose Mourinho to move in for the player.

United finalised a deal for Chilean international Alexis Sanchez on Monday, and are unlikely to bring in any more players this month.
However, there are recent speculations that the red devils believe they can sign the duo of Carlos Soler and Julian Weigl when summer comes.
Jose Mourinho told the management last month of the need to sign more quality players to enable him to win the premier league trophy for the club. His side are still 12 points behind Manchester City.
