Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil looked destined for a transfer away from the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer window as his deal was due to run out when the season ends, and like his ex-team-mate Alexis Sanchez, the Germany international midfielder seemed most likely to join English Premier League rivals Manchester United last summer.
Ozil opted to remain despite numerous offers
Despite the speculations, the former Real Madrid attacking midfielder opted to remain at the club and signed a deal until 2021, worth £350,000-weekly, replacing latest signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan as the Gunners highest earner.
As per SportBlid during the winter transfer window, Mesut Ozil rejected approaches from Premier League giants Manchester United, French big-spenders Paris Saint Germain, La Liga leaders Barcelona and a massive £22m yearly offer from Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou Evergrande.
The interest from Paris Saint Germain and FC Barcelona particularly would have been Mesut Ozil’s greatest opportunity of domestic and continental success, but Mesut Ozil seemed very glad about staying put at the North London outfit.
Exciting winter signing
Keeping the German, and the signing of Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, gave Arsenal supporters something to cheer about on winter transfer deadline day, in what was a hectic and terrifying transfer window.
