AS Roma defender Bruno Peres has been sidelined for his side’s teams important UEFA Champions League group stage encounter with Chelsea on Tuesday night after sustaining a thigh injury during his team’s 1-0 victory over Bologna last weekend.
Peres was forced out with 20 minutes of the match against Roberto Donadoni’s team on last week Saturday and underwent various medical tests to ascertain the severity of the injury Yesterday.
Results revealed that the injury was not very serious, but the Brazil star will be sidelined for up to two weeks and will surely play no part against the English Premier League champions, who currently lead Group C with seven points to second-placed AS Roma’s five points.
Peres’ injury setback has left Roma manager Eusebio Di Fransesco with a huge problem at full-back. Right-back Rick Karsdorp injured his anterior cruciate ligament in his first match against Crotone last week, while Emerson Palmieri is gradually regaining full fitness after sustaining the same injury back in May.
Juan Jesus and Aleksandar Kolarov are both good enough to play at left-back, but the injuries to Peres and Karsdorp leave AS Roma light at right-back. The versatile Alessandro Florenzi might be deployed in that for the injured duo, though the Italian has only recently regained full fitness after an anterior cruciate ligament injury himself. Youngster Patrik Schick will also miss the match against Conte’s men due to a hamstring injury.
As for Chelsea, midfield maestro Danny Drinkwater recently returned from a calf injury, while N’Golo Kante could well play a role tonight after recuperating from a hamstring injury.
