According to La Prensa Libre, Arsenal winger Joel Campbell sustained a knee injury against Espanyol as a result of a tackle from midfielder Papa Diop.
With Spanish La Liga side Real Betis trailing, as a result, of a goal from Gerard Moreno, Joel Campbell was called upon in the 76th minute to help turn the scoreline around.
Unfortunately, Joel Campbell and Real Betis were unsuccessful, and their dey seemingly got a lot worse when a dirty challenge from Papa Diop in the 93rd minute of the encounter left Joel Campbell needing treatment after the referee had blown the final whistle.
The extent of Campbell’s injury is still not known at this stage. However, Real Betis boss Quique Setian seemed really optimistic about the injury.
He joined the Spanish La Liga side on loan for the second time in his playing career in the summer window.
Joel was in the process of recovering fully after sitting out pre-season friendlies with a knee problem suffered during the last Gold Cup.
The attacker made a great impact at the Spanish side when he scored a goal and made an assist off the substitute bench in a 6-3 loss to Valencia.
This injury scare could rule the forward out of Costa Rica’s forthcoming friendlies against Spain and Hungary.
