Manchester United have been tipped to be in the better position to have the signature of River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacious ahead of the winter transfer window which reopens in coming weeks.

The Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is one of the managers that is expected to storm the winter market for more additions to strengthen his squad having had a rough and inconsistent first half.

The Portuguese boss has not been satisfied with his defenders as well as the crop of attackers he has got which he described as being childish while Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku have both been goal shy.

However, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is reported to be keen on having the signature of the Argentina international so that he can make a difference in his team and as well serve as a perfect cover should French star Paul Pogba decide to leave the Old Trafford.

Exequiel Palacious has interested a number of clubs as a result of his impressive performance this season knowing that Real Madrid are also in the chase for his signature.

However, United must be ready to meet up with the asking price of about £20 million for the star River Plate player whose contract still runs until 2021.
