Why Liverpool must release this £25m winger in January

Serbia international Lazar Markovic joined the Reds from Benfica at the age of 20 in a deal which was said to have cost nothing less than £20m.

You wouldn’t want to blame Klopp for spending so much on Markovic’s signature, the Serbian was a young player with huge potentials throughout his time with the Portuguese giants and Klopp thought the player would get better under his tutelage.

Sadly for all parties involved in the deal [Markovic, Klopp, and Liverpool], things haven’t gone as expected for the winger who is now 24 years old.

Since his move to Anfield four years ago, Markovic has played just 34 games for the Reds due to loss of form and lack of determination to succeed.

Klopp thought the player wasn’t comfortable with life in England, he sent him on loan to Anderlecht during last season to help him rediscover his form.

Irrespective of the decision to loan him out, Markovic didn’t show any sign of improvement and he was eventually demoted to Liverpool’s Premier League 2 team.

The Serbia international is surplus to requirements, hence, the Reds must sanction his move to any interested suitor before the end of the winter transfer.

There are many lively and in-form attackers at Klopp’s disposal, so, the German manager has no reason to stop the Serbian from leaving Anfield in January.

Markovic’s contract with the Merseyside club will expire by the end of the season, hence, it’s important Klopp release him as soon as possible, if he must make money from his sale.
