Manchester United attacker Juan Mata is set to return to his former club, Valencia, according to reports.
The Spaniard has been in and out of the starting eleven at Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho has preferred other attacking options to the player.
With just 12 months on his contract, reports in The Sun claim that Mata could be on his way back to Valencia.
The former Chelsea star had only held initial talks with United over an extension, and the talks has not progressed since then, allowing Valencia to express their interest in the midfielder.
Manchester United might be willing to cash in on Mata instead of losing him on a free next summer, however, the player will have to lower his weekly wages, he currently earns £130,000-a-week at United which Valencia are not willing to pay
An insider at the Old Trafford said the club is aware of Valencia’s interest on Juan Mata due to the past relationship, and the player looks set to leave unless something an extension is struck.
Mata, who broke into the limelight at Valencia, has gone on to become one of the best attackers in the Premier League, playing under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and now Manchester United.
In related news, fellow Spanish midfielder, Ander Herrera is set to commit his future to Manchester United, as his contract enters the final year.
