Chelsea striker Diego Costa’s refusal to come back to training is “disgraceful,” says former Arsenal forward Ian Wright.

The 28-year-old striker who is currently in homeland Brazil said he has been treated like ” a criminal” and wants to leave the club for his former club Atletico Madrid.

The striker netted 20 goals in 35 Premier League matches for Chelsea last campaign.

Antonio Conte texted Diego Costa back in June to inform him he was not in his plans at Stamford Bridge, but the Spaniard says he has been informed to return to the London club and train with the reserve team.

In Wright’s words, “I don’t understand how players (Costa) can get away with that behaviour,”

The former Athletico Madrid forward was given extra days off by the club last month, but now confirmed he is being fined for not resuming and is considering taking legal action or seeing out the remaining seasons of his deal unpaid in his homeland.

Chelsea expects the striker to return to the club immediately, training, get himself fit and put himself in the running for match selection, because he still has a running contract with the club.

The Pundit told BBC Radio 5 live’s The Monday Night Club”It’s disgraceful the way he (Costa) is behaving,”

“Surely he’s(Costa) got to return here, so if the coach changes his mind, he’s there. He’s earning a fortune (huge pay) at Chelsea. Can Atletico Madrid even afford the pay?”
