Shakhtar Donetsk star player Fred has been heavily linked with a move away from the club in recent times after emerging as a target for a handful of top clubs across Europe including Manchester United and Arsenal.
But according to new reports circulating in the media about him, Manchester City are determined to get his signature and manager Pep Guardiola has sanctioned a £45million move for him.
The Manchester Evening News made it known that the sky blue club have informed Shakhtar Donetsk that they will pay £45m to bring the midfielder down to the Etihad Stadium this month.
However, it was also added that the Ukrainian club have rejected the offer from the premier league champions, as they believe they can make lots of money from a player who has attracted attention from various big clubs in Europe.
Guardiola is in the market for a new midfielder that can replace 32-year-old Fernandinho at Manchester City. Although the veteran star player is still superb at the club, the fact remains that his career on the pitch is ending soon.
At Manchester United, Mourinho is expected to lose the duo of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season, and the Portuguese tactician is keen on bringing Fred to Old Trafford to fill any void meant to be opened by those players.
