Schalke star player Leon Goretzka has emerged as a target for a handful of top clubs across Europe as he approaches the end of his contract at the Bundesliga club.
It is very much unlikely that the player will have a change of mind to extend his stay at Schalke, and premier league heavyweights Manchester United were one of the English clubs recently linked with the 22-year-old.
And in a new development, Jose Mourinho’s side are understood to have been given a big boost to their hopes of sealing the midfielder’s transfer, with Spanish heavyweights Barcelona ruling out a move to get his signature for the main time.
The talented youngster will be a free agent next summer and would surely be a nice one for Man United or any other club that will eventually get his signature.
There were some previous speculations that La Liga side Barcelona were one of the leading clubs in the hunt for his signature, but recently, their international scout Ariedo Braida has made it known the Catalan giants won’t be going for a player like him yet.
Braida, while responding to questions about the club’s interest in the midfielder, admits Leon is not currently at the right stage to make a move to a club like Barcelona.
According to the scout, even though the Germany international is a great player, a move to Camp Nou is ‘too soon’.
