Former Liverpool player Dietmar Hamann feels his former side’s current boss Jurgen Klopp should sign a new holding midfielder when the fast-approaching winter transfer window eventually open.
Hamann believes a talented holding midfielder will help bring out the best from other midfielders in the club.
It is quite glaring Jurgen Klopp has one of the best attacks right now in Europe, but his defense department is nothing to write home about. And Dietmar believes the solution is signing a superb holding midfielder that stops attacks from opponents and will inspire others at Anfield.
Speaking about his old club recently, Hamann thinks the balance of Klopp’s squad is not right on many occasions. The legend believes both Jordan Henderson and Emre Can would have been better if they have a superb defensive midfielder like N’Golo Kante or Nemanja Matic in the party.
“They [Emre Can and Jordan Henderson] are good players, but could be even better with somebody [better] else next to them [in Klopp’s team]” Hamann said.
Naby Keita is coming over to Anfield at the end of this season, but there is still a need to bring in a central defender.
Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk has been linked with the Merseyside club ahead of the January transfer window, and Klopp is expected to do all it takes to sign the Dutchman.
