According to reports, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is keen to join Premier League giant Manchester United from North London club Arsenal next summer.

The Sunday Mirror reports that the German will decide to run down his deal, which runs out next summer, and the midfielder’s representatives have already been in touch with Manchester United to sound out a potential transfer to Old Trafford.

The same publication also claims that former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho remains a big fan of Mesut Ozil, who he managed at Real Madrid, and will tell Manchester United’s chief’s to work on a transfer deal.

Mesut Ozil, who will be available for free, has reportedly asked for a £250,000-weekly salary from the Gunners.

Italian Serie A giant Inter Milan are also keen on a deal for the Germany international midfielder, but the 28-year-old playmaker’s preference is to remain in the English Premier League and join a side who are looking to win major trophies.

In Mesut Ozil’s autobiography, Gunning for Greatness, the German credited Jose Mourinho for giving him the self-confidence to perform creditably well at Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid.

Mourinho said: ‘Real Madrid is not too big a transfer for you (Mesut Ozil). Real Madrid is the only right move. Trust me (Mourinho). I(Mourinho) will turn you (Mesut Ozil) into a regular starter.’
