After battling to a tough two-nil win against Crystal Palace on Monday, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has played down their chances of winning the premier league this term.
In response to Monday Night Football on the Red’s expectations of pushing for the title, Klopp said, ‘It’s very early. I couldn’t care less and it’s not important. We are not in a race with other Premier League teams each week saying ‘wow, they’ve scored these goals’ I was not 100 per cent sure in the first half we’d score [against Palace] but you have to be a real challenger and that’s what we are each week.’
Former RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita was outstanding in the middle for the Reds with his quick thinking, creativity and thinking, perhaps highlighting the reason Liverpool secured his transfer so early. Klopp, however, believes the former RB Leipzig man can still improve to become an even more rounded player.
A penalty goal from James Milner and a late Sadio Mane goal ensured Liverpool’s excellent start to the season continued but the defensive exploits of Netherlands international Virgil Van Dijk has not gone unnoticed with Klopp who suggested that the £75million signing from Southampton may well have been a bargain for the Merseyside outfit going by the quality he has displayed for the club since his arrival in January.
The Reds will turn their attention to Brighton & Hove Albion who they welcome to Anfield on the 25th of August 2018. Liverpool supporters can only hope that their impressive start to the new season continues.
