Chelsea supporters will have the chance to see some young players in action on Wednesday night when the West Londoners take on Everton in the English Football League Cup.
Chelsea’s medical room is undoubtedly busy at the moment now with several of their top players out injured or checking up on a couple of knocks.
Brazilian defender David Luiz and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, although starting the match against Watford, were earlier said to have sustained knocks to the calf and groin respectively in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Italian Serie A side AS Roma last week Wednesday.
Midfield maestro N’Golo Kante and Nigeria winger Victor Moses are out for the next couple of weeks with hamstring problems, while former Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater is recuperating from a calf injury. The England international midfielder was seen training at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after the Blues secured a Premier League victory over Watford.
While confirming the trio’s absence in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Ronald Koeman’s Everton side, manager Antonio Conte revealed some young players may get an opportunity to impress.
“I [Antonio Conte] think this could be a good chance to give an opportunity to the youngsters like Charly Musonda, also Brazilian Kenedy, youngsters who I [Conte] think deserve the opportunity. They are working really hard, they are developing and we [technical crew] can see the improvement against Merseyside club Everton which is a difficult match.
It is important for me [Antonio Conte], important for the side. We [Technical crew] will do this. I [Antonio Conte] think for the match against Everton, it is impossible to recuperate for Danny Drinkwater. Wingback Victor Moses needs more recovering time and so does Frenchman N’Golo Kante.”
