Coach collapses after player punched him in Nigerian league game

There was confusion in Nigeria’s lower division Nigeria National League (NNL) game when a player was alleged to have attacked a coach during a game and punched him.

According to the report, the head coach of the NNL side, Shooting Stars Agoye Edith Olumide collapsed after he was given a heavy punch in the head by an Akwa Starlets and goalkeeper Franklin Akwari in the game between both teams.

The NNL game between the visiting Shooting Stars and the Akwa Ibom based team had ended in a 0-0 draw before the ugly incident happened

It took the intervention of the medical team to revive Coach Olumide who was left unconscious on the ground for minutes.

Trouble had ensued after the fans and players felt the result of the game was undeserving and had to protest in such a manner.

According to reports, the referees and the visiting teams were dealt with and left at the mercy of the fans who had invaded the pitch after the game as it took the intervention of some the security agents on the pitch to rescue the players.

An official reaction is still being expected by the organizers of the league with sanctions and punishments expected to fall on the host team and their fans.
