Premier League giants Chelsea have been handed a big transfer boost following a major development in their pursuit of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

The Argentine international striker has been stripped of his duties as the Inter Milan captain and that has fuelled rumours of a possible move away from the club when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Mauro Icardi was dropped as the Inter Milan skipper earlier on Wednesday.

The former Sampdoria attacker had been in a contract dispute with the club and the situation took a turn for the worse on Wednesday with him being stripped of his duties as the Nerazzurri captain.

€100m-rated Mauro Icardi has become a key player for Inter Milan since his transfer to the club from Sampdoria in 2013.

He has a contract that does not expire until the end of the 2020/21 season.

The latest development surrounding Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan would be music to the ears of potential suitors like Chelsea and Real Madrid.

West London giants Chelsea were seriously linked with a move for Icardi last summer shortly after Maurizio Sarri joined the club as manager at the start of this campaign.

The transfer could be possible in the summer with the latest news on him being dropped as the Inter Milan captain.
