Ajax Amsterdam skipper Matthijs De Ligt has set his sights on a move to Spanish champions Barcelona ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

This is according to the publication from Spanish news platform Mundo Deportivo which claimed that De Ligt wants to swap Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam for Barcelona this summer.

West London giants Chelsea are one of the clubs to have previously expressed an interest in the 19-year-old centre back.

De Ligt is said to be keen on a reunion with the club and international teammate Frenkie De Jong at the Nou Camp.

Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs De Ligt are presently on the books at Ajax Amsterdam but the former will move to Barcelona at the end of this season.

Barcelona signed him during the winter transfer window but won’t join them until the summer.

The Spaniards paid an initial transfer fee of €65m for him with the possibility of an additional €10m on add-ons.

The aforementioned publication revealed that Matthijs De Ligt wants to play with both De Jong and Argentine national team skipper Lionel Messi at Barcelona though his agent doesn’t fancy the move to the Nou Camp.

The player’s agent is said to be in favour of a move for his client to clubs with more financial strength like Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Italian champions Juventus.
