Portuguese champions Benfica have dismissed recent reports that Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are closing in on a move for one of their prized assets.

Reports on Monday in Spain had claimed that Atletico Madrid are closing in on a move for Benfica teen sensation Joao Felix after agreeing to pay the £105m (€120m) release clause in his contract with the newly crowned Portuguese champions.

According to trusted Spanish newspaper AS, Benfica have rubbished those transfer rumours linking Joao Felix with the Rojiblancos.

Joao Felix has previously been linked with a move to Champions League holders Liverpool who had a £61m bid rejected for him towards the end of last year.

Apart from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, Joao Felix has been attracting the interest of other major European clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus.

Joao Felix enjoyed a breakthrough season for Benfica during the just concluded season.

The 19-year-old attacker scored 20 goals in all competitions for Benfica who were able to reclaim the Portuguese Super League title from rivals FC Porto.

His best display came in the Europa League quarterfinals when he scored a treble in their first leg clash with German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Joao Felix scored a hattrick to lead Benfica to a 4-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt before the Portuguese giants were eliminated on the away goals rule after losing the second leg 2-0.
