La Liga giant FC Barcelona are pressing ahead with their plans to sign Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho in the New Year, as per latest reports from Spain.
Philippe Coutinho to FC Barcelona was one of the summer’s most talked about rumours, with the star player submitting a timely transfer request to attempt to push through a move to Catalonia.
Such a transfer never happened, however, with the Reds turning down multiple offers for a player who only signed a new long-term deal in January that contained no buyout clause.
Barcelona have since claimed that they were cited an eye-watering €200m for his signature in the final hours before the Spanish La Liga deadline.
The Red’s complete reluctance to sell one of their main assets for any fee has not deterred persistent rumour surrounding a renewed chase from FC Barcelona in January and it is said that the Brazilian remains a priority transfer target for Barca boss Ernesto Valverde.
Plans to rekindle that chase now appear to be gathering serious momentum, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the Brazilian and agents Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian have stayed in contact with FC Barcelona and that the latter should meet with Liverpool representatives next week.
