Houssem Aouar

Liverpool are reportedly in the chase after Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar as Klopp looks to add more quality to his midfield setup. The German manager is quite unhappy with what he’s seen so far from his summer signings Naby Keita and Fabinho.

According to RMC Sport, the Merseyside club are in intense competition with Barcelona and Chelsea for the player’s signature.

The youngster has taken the French League by storm with some eye-catching performances since the start of the season.

With his current form and displays, it will be very difficult for Lyon to prevent their academy product from moving elsewhere in January.

Considering that the Reds upgraded their midfield prowess in the summer, it is surprising that Klopp is interested in adding a largely untested player to his team.

Klopp’s move for Hossem Aouar signifies that the German manager is planning to let go of some fringe or ageing players in January or at the end of the current season.

Who could be at the receiving end of Klopp’s desire to sign the 20-year-old star?

Taking a careful look at Liverpool’s midfield setup, there are two players whose ages are becoming too old to cope with the League’s strenuous and physical-demanding nature they are Adam lLallana30) and James Milner (32).

Of these two players, James Milner has been an influential captain and player so far this season. He plays with huge maturity, knowing that his young teammates are looking up to him as a source of inspiration.

Though he didn’t start in most of the League matches played so far this season, the former England international has influenced the outcome of many games as a super sub.

Klopp will never trade such an important member of his team for a young, inexperience youngster, who is still learning the trade.

Adam Lallana is likely to be released by the Reds in January as the player appears to be far from his usual self.

Lallana, 30, is an Injury-prone midfielder, who has had to deal with many injury crises since his switch to Anfield from Southampton in 2014.

As result of his consistent uninspiring display, the Anfield faithfuls are calling on their manager to let go of the German midfielder so as to create room for new, young, and more determined player.

To complicate situations for Lallana, the Lyon-born 20-year-old star has the same playing style with him, hence, it is unhealthy and unnecessary to have both players in the same team.

Aouar is a versatile player who can operate as an attacking or defensive midfielder, depending on Klopp’s tactical approach to games.

Apart from playing at the middle of the pitch, the youngster can also equally be deployed at the left wing of attack.

Though nothing is official yet, it won’t be out of place to say that Klopp is definitely getting ready for life without Adam Lallana at Anfield
