Atletico Madrid join AC Milan in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder

The Mirror reported that small La Liga contenders, Atletico Madrid are set to sign Chelsea midfielder and Spain international, Cesc Fabregas in the January transfer window.

This comes after the midfielder, who just returned from an injury, had disclosed he would like to train under coach Maurizio Sarri and wished the Italian had taken over as Chelsea coach earlier.

But his decision may be about to change with Atletico Madrid ready to bring him back to the Spanish La Liga – having once played at Nou Camp.

Cesc Fabregas’s contract is expected to end in 2019 and Chelsea can use the January transfer window to get back at least part of the £33 million they paid as his transfer fee back in 2014.

31-year-old Cesc Fabregas is adamant over his desire to remain at Chelsea despite his limited playing chances with Sarri preferring the duo of Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic ahead of him and also the Italian coach ”likely to see him as merely a back-up to Jorginho, the Spaniard could move on.”

Looking at his age, it is quite certain that the Blues will not offer him a contract extension.

Apart from Atletico Madrid, Italian club, AC Milan are also interested in the Spanish midfielder.
