Arsene Wenger regrets selling Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger disclosed he would have let Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez join League leaders Manchester City in a £60million transfer deal last summer transfer window ‘if he had his time again’ rather than allowing him to complete a move to Manchester United in the winter.

Wenger reluctantly sanctioned swap deal

The French tactician reluctantly sanctioned a transfer deal for the attacker to join the Red Devil’s, with Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the opposite way, having stopped the summer move to United’s City rivals.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola tried to force through a £60million transfer for the South American on deadline day, but the Arsenal boss ended his hopes of reuniting with the former Barcelona attacker after failing to sign AS Monaco forward Thomas Lemar.

Wenger admits major mistake in Sanchez transfer

And the former Monaco boss has admitted that he made a big error in not allowing the Chilean to leave back then, as reported by the Mirror.

At a question and answer session for the club’s executive box holders, the manager confessed that he should have offloaded the 29-year-old attacker due to his deal running down.

The forward was an unhappy figure in the four months after the summer, and Arsene Wenger feels his drop in form over that spell proved that the transfer sadly backfired.
