Even though Chelsea’s defense this season is above average, it appears Chelsea’s manager Antonio Conte desire adding more power to his defense.
Different defenders were linked with move to Stamford Bridge, and one of them is Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
And now, his agent has made revelations about how close Chelsea was to signing the talented player last summer, and why the move didn’t sail through.
The 25-year-old defender who remains on the blues radar, has made 81 appearances for his Italian club since he joined the Serie A club from Genk back then in 2014.
He has been heavily linked with a move to west London in recent months and it was reported that Chelsea boss tried to work on a club-record £60million deal for Koulibaly. Nevertheless, former PSG defender David Luiz completed a £34 million return to Chelsea on deadline day.
His representative, speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, stated that Chelsea were interested in the player but then they signed David Luiz again.
He added that apart from the Stamford Bridge club signing David Luiz on deadline day, they also have veteran defender John Terry and Gary Cahill – so there is an obvious competition at the London club.
He however added that all hopes are not lost yet as anything can still happen in the future.
