Willian has not been a starter at Chelsea in recent weeks and Pedro has been a preferred option, pushing Willian down the pecking order.
But Conte, the Blues boss has stressed that the Brazilian attacker is important and still very much part of his plans as he shed light on the players situation.
“He’s come back and now it’s important to find good form because, in this period, he was unlucky,” he told the press at a pre-match conference
“You know why [he was initially missing]. But it is important now to be focused on work and find continuity in training. Willy is an important player for us and I count upon him a lot.” He said amid news of United’s interest in the player.
When most of Mourinho’s trusted soldiers faltered last season, Willian didn’t. The 28-year-old Chelsea player took it upon himself to save games for Chelsea and had seven goals to his name but the Portuguese manager and the club part ways, months after winning the English Premier League.
Jose Mourinho is a fan of the Brazilian and he might be looking to bring him into the fold at Old Trafford in the coming January transfer window.
Willian was Chelsea player of the year last season but due to injury and the death of his mother, he had struggled to keep his spot on the team and as so has not started a match since October 21.
Conte also spoke of Cesc Fabregas and Kurt Zuoma being close to coming back to the team and confirmed John Terry and Mikel will miss the London derby clash with Tottenham.
