Coutinho was stretched off in Liverpools Premier League clash with Sunderland and having undergone a scan on Monday, Jürgen Klopp confirmed that the player will be out till new year.
Talking to BBC Jürgen Klopp said: “Phil needs five and a few weeks until we have him back. We will see. He’s not in tonight and for the next few games.
Coutinho is one of Liverpool’s best player this season and has been directly involved in ten goals so far -five goals and five assists- but will now miss out a couple of matches including one against Everton on December 19 and if Klopp is right then he will also miss out on December 31st clash with Manchester City.
The Liverpool boss made eight changes to side as they face Leeds United in the EFL cup quater-final clash. Speaking about the changes, Klopp had this to say: “Roberto (Firmino) couldn’t play.
“The same with Joel Matip and a few other players had all the games until now. We can bring in fresh legs. Especially in defence.
“In attack, we have not that number of options anymore but im fine with the options we have. So we start with this line-up, we have a strong bench and want to go to the semis.”
Liverpool is currently a point off leaders Chelsea on the English Premier League table.
