Chelsea midfielder, Matteo Kovacic was missing in action for the Blues in the Uefa Europa League following an injury he sustained in the English Premier League match against Cardiff at Stamford Bride.

While the Real Madrid star stayed back at Stamford Bridge as the rest of the squad flew to Greece, England international, Ross Barkley took his place.

The UEL match in Greece happens to be Ross Barkley start for the Blues this season owing to the fact that Chelsea new boss, Sarri Maurizio prefers the trio of Matteo Kovacic, Jorginho and N’golo Kante at the midfield.

However, following Ross Barkley performance for the Blues against PAOK, Sarri might be reconsidering him and possibly give him more playing chances as the England international was also unused in the days of former coach, Antonio Conte.

Ross Barkley gave the Blues their lone goal assist which was scored by Willian last night.

Sarri Maurizio has to start considering Barkley over Mateo Kovacic owing to the fact that the latter is a loaned out player from Real Madrid with no option to buy.

This means Madrid can ask him to return to Spain next season after he has gotten acquainted with the Blues style of play.
