It has been revealed that Manchester United star forward Wayne Rooney rejected a move to leave the club in the summer. Rooney could have been in the Chinese Super league playing for Beijing Guoan but according to the Chinese club’s honorary chairman Lou Ning the England International decided not to make the move to China.
Lou Ning revealed that the agent of Rooney Paul Stretford met with representatives of the Chinese club after Guoan had made their intentions known that they were interested in having Rooney in their team.
Earlier in the season there were speculations that the England captain could leave Old Trafford especially as he was not starting matches under Jose Mourinho and had lost his position in the England National team.
Ning has disclosed that the 31-year-old who has a contract with Manchester United till 2019 rejected making a move to the Chinese club.
Lou Ning speaking to a Beijing radio show stated “We indeed made an approach for Rooney at the beginning of the season but he’s informed us that he wants to stay in Manchester United. Rooney says he’ll keep playing in the Premier League as long as his health allows. We even met with his agent.”
It seems Rooney is determined to fulfill his contract at Manchester United and could be interested in having a new deal with the club despite serious interest from clubs in Asia, Middle East and China.
Rooney started on Sunday against Swansea City and was instrumental in United getting a 3-1 victory.
