Manchester United spent lavishly to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton during the past summer transfer window, beating Chelsea to the Belgian’s signature.
Although the 24-year-old was able to best some early records set by some of Man United’s legends like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Eric Cantona, the Belgium international is currently struggling to score often and often for his new side.
In 18 top-flight games for the red devils, Romelu has only scored 10 goals.
Manager Jose Mourinho has only Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a backup for the former Everton striker, but the Swede legend is not also at his best, and there are fears he won’t be able to replicate what he did for Man United last season before he retires.
Therefore, the red devils are interested in signing a new centre forward to strengthen the department, and there are reports they could make a move for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
Don Balon said Man United are set to offer £123million for Icardi’s signature, and will also offer him a deal that will see him earn a whopping £290,000 each week (which is what Paul Pogba currently earns at the club).
The Argentine international is a quality player that will add more quality to Jose Mourinho’s side should he make the move. In 34 appearances last season for Inter Milan, he scored 24 times and provided seven assists.
This season so far, in 17 appearances, he has scored 17 goals for his side.
