North London side Arsenal boss Unai Emery has stated that the referee Michael Oliver is innocent and should not be blamed for his side’s 5-1 defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League clash on Saturday evening.

The Gunners recorded their most embarrassing result under new manager as they were well treated by the Reds trio with Roberto Firmino scoring a hat trick in the game to add to the one each scored by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

With the number of decisions taken by the referee which is believed to be controversial, the former PSG boss stated that the official will not be held responsible for defeat while noting that some of the decisions would not have stood if there was a Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

However, Emery noted that his side did not lose in the game because of a referee but because of the mistakes made by his players but admitted there were positives especially with Ainsley Maitland-Niles who played from the right wing and scored a goal as well.

The former Sevilla coach also hailed Nigerian international Alex Iwobi who had an impressive 90 minutes performance in the game.

He ended by stating that his side must bounce back as they need to show their fans that they deserve their support.
