Record Maker: Liverpool Defender Sets New Premier League Record

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was in inspired form on the final day of this season’s Premier League campaign after he provided two goals for the Reds to seal a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.

Alexander-Arnold made both goals for Senegalese international star Sadio Mane either side of the halftime interval as Liverpool won their ninth successive league game.

Despite the win over Wolves, Liverpool were unable to crown their effort with the Premier League title after they were piped to the much-coveted trophy by Manchester City.

With his two assists, Trent Alexander-Arnold set a new Premier League record for the number of goals provided by a defender in a single season.

He had earlier pulled level with that record in the penultimate league match of the season, a 3-2 win at the home of Newcastle United, after providing his 11th assist of the season for Mohamed Salah to score one of the goals for Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold tied with Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson and Everton defender Leighton Baines with 11 assists until the final day of the season when his two assists for the aforementioned Mane took him clear with 13 assists thereby setting a new record for a defender in the Premier League.
