Ex-Chelsea Star Pens New 2-Year Man Utd Contract

Manchester United midfielder Juan Manuel Mata has extended his stay at the club beyond this summer after he signed a new contract with the club.

His new contract was confirmed by Manchester United on Wednesday evening via their official Twitter page.

The Spanish international player would have been a free agent this summer.

His previous contract would have expired in few days’ time but the Red Devils have moved to secure him on a long-term deal.

The former Chelsea playmaker has signed a two-year deal to take his time at Manchester United to the end of the 2020/21 season.

There’s the option of a third year in the new contract signed by the former Valencia player.

Juan Mata was linked with several clubs on the European football scene but the Spaniard opted to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Spanish midfielder was touted as a possible transfer addition to major European sides like Juventus, Arsenal and Barcelona.

The Gunners provided him with the opportunity to reunite with Arsenal boss Unai Emery whom he worked with at Valencia.

Juan Manuel Mata became a Manchester United player during the winter transfer window in January 2014 when the Red Devils paid £37.1m to secure his transfer.
