Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has heaped lots of praises on two of his men – Chris Smalling and Sergio Romero – after his side won Swansea City on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup.
The Old Trafford club bounced back to winning ways on Tuesday following their 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town last Saturday in the premier league – all thanks to Jesse Lingard’s brace.
Jose made lots of changes in his starting XI at the Swansea game, and just four players kept their place in the squad following the Saturday’s defeat.
One of the four players who played against Huddersfield last weekend and was also included in the squad that won the Swans is Smalling.
Shot-stopper Sergio Romero also replaced David De Gea in-between the sticks.
And Mourinho hailed the performances of both Romero and Smalling after the game, admitting both players were instrumental against the Swans.
“[Sergio] Romero and [Chris] Smalling gave us big stability” the Portuguese told Sky Sports.
This season so far, Chris has mainly had to play a back-up role behind the likes of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones at the heart of Man United’s defense, and he couldn’t even get a start in the premier league until the end of last month.
But since Jones got injured, Smalling has been getting more playing time, and he might be considered for the premier league game against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
