Premier League table toppers Liverpool have a new threat to deal with in their quest to sign Benfica starlet Joao Felix following the news that German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have turned their focus to the attacking midfielder.

The Bavarian giants have switched their attention to Joao Felix after Chelsea failed to grant their wish to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi despite making five separate bids for the young England winger.

Bayern Munich were rebuffed in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi even after making a £40m bid for the player.

The Blues’ initial asking price for their winger was £35m.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to stay at Chelsea beyond the current transfer window at least.

He has 18 months left on his present deal with the West London giants.

Apart from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, Joao Felix has been linked with other European clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

The interest of Bayern Munich was confirmed by German newspaper Sport Bild.

The Red Devils sent scouts to run the rule over the 19-year-old on Tuesday.

He has a release clause of €120m (£105m) in his current deal at Benfica having recently put pen to paper on a new contract at the club.

Joao Felix has scored five goals and two assists in six starts and five substitute appearances in the league this season.
