Jose Mourinho is obviously pleased with Chris Smalling’s recent performances at Manchester United, and the Portuguese tactician believes the defender has all it takes to replace Eric Bailly – who is likely to get under the knife due to his injury.
Eric injured his groin while playing for his national side a few weeks ago and hasn’t played a single game for the red devils since November 5th.
The Old Trafford club are treating the African player’s injury conservatively, but manager Jose confessed the player is likely to need surgery instead.
Chris Smalling has featured in Manchester United’s last 11 games and, in the absence of Baily and Phil Jones, he has become the club’s first choice centre-back.
And Jose Mourinho, speaking after his side’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday night, praised Smalling for playing ‘amazingly’ well.
The Portuguese tactician believes Chris has the capacity to replace Eric in his starting XI, as the Englishman has been playing well in in their last matches.
Jose also made mention that the injury Marcos Rojo picked against Man City wasn’t a big deal.
After winning Bournemouth yesterday, Jose Mourinho will lead his men to the Hawthorns this weekend to clash with West Brom.
Man City hosts Tottenham Hotspur this weekend at the Etihad Stadium and Mourinho will hope the citizens can drop points.
