Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed his admiration for midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and said he’s “hopeful” about Mkhitaryan’s injury.

Mkhitaryan arrived Old Trafford at summer from Borussia Dortmund for €30 million and has impressed massively. There were however concerns after he was stretchered off during the 1-0 win against Tottenham.

Nevertheless, manager Mourinho believes we could see him back in action again before the end of year.

“Hopefully he can play Christmas. We believe it’s possible,” Mourinho said.

“When I saw him on the stretcher I thought it was more difficult. When I watched the tackle again on TV, I was a bit scared.

“It’s a pity because he is going to miss matches in his best period but at least we don’t lose a player for so long.”

Jose Mourinho was hailed for the way he has handled Mkhitaryan since arriving in the summer and the Portguese tactician discussed at length the Armenian’s adaptation to the Premier League.

“I had players with a similar process of adaptation. We bought him. It was not a player that was chosen by other people. We bought him because I asked the club to do it, because I liked and analysed the player.

“It would be more frustrating for me if everything went wrong but he needed a period of adaption at every level and in that period he was a great professional.

“Maybe another guy would find excuses and blame the manager, or the pitch or the weather, like many players now do.

“But he was quiet, worked hard and waited for the opportunity. And he’s playing so good now. Hopefully the matches out won’t stop his evolution.” He added.
