Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed that he stopped watching Manchester United matches during his time at the Old Trafford due to his lack of chances.

The French midfielder had a torrid time during his time with United, enduring a dry spell under Jose Mourinho who rarely gave him a chance since he joined them at the start of the season.

Schneiderlin who left Old Trafford for Everton during the January transfer window, has now come out to reveal his frustrations under Mourinho before his eventual departure.

He said: “My routine at Manchester United would be the same as yours, I was used to playing football and then I was waking up as a spectator.”I will be honest, there was one point in December when I did not go to matches any more because it was hard.

“It was painful – I couldn’t go there, smile and sign autographs for fans and pretend to be happy when I was not.

“For me it was better to watch the game at home.”

The 28-year-old also went on to express his delight at the prospects under Ronald Koeman so far since he joined last January, he said: “I remember the best thing ever was after Stoke when I had made my Everton debut.

“You walk and your calves are heavy, your quads are heavy and you feel like you need to go to and ice bath. That is the best feeling ever.

“When you are feeling great every day and you don’t have any knocks or anything, is when football starts to get boring.”
