During the past summer transfer window, Jose Mourinho only signed a defender (Victor Lindelof), a defensive midfielder (Nemanja Matic) and a striker (Romelu Lukaku), but failed to bring in an attacking midfielder.
However, it appears the Portuguese tactician is planning to get that done when another opportunity comes, as his side have been linked with Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil for some time now.
Ozil has been out of form this term, and his current contract with Arsenal will expire next year.
And if the latest reports about him are anything to go by, then it appears the Germany international will eventually find himself playing at Old Trafford next year.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ozil has been advised to run down his contract at North London and move to Old Trafford on a free transfer.
Mourinho and Ozil have both worked together back then at Real Madrid. The Portuguese boss signed the German playmaker in 2010 and he evolved into a very important member of the squad who helped Madrid win the La Liga crown in 2012.
The report made it known that Ozil, who earns £154,000 each week at Arsenal, is open to the idea of moving back to Spain to play for his former club at Madrid, or Barcelona. But in England, he would only consider playing for Manchester United, despite being linked with other English clubs.
