Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt has been told to join Liverpool ahead of other interested clubs if he decides to move away from the Amsterdam Arena this summer.
The 19-year-old is widely expected to leave Ajax Amsterdam this summer with the Dutch Eredivisie giants primed to slap an asking price of €80m on him.
Former Netherlands winger Rene Van der Gijp has advised him to move to Liverpool due to the advantage of forming a potent centre back partnership with international teammate Virgil Van Dijk at Anfield.
Gijp made this known in a chat with Dutch media portal Voetbal Primeur as he said that the Netherlands national team will benefit for many years to come if De Ligy and Van Dijk form a potent centre back partnership at club level just like they have been doing for the Oranje.
Virgil Van Dijk has been in very good form for Liverpool since his big-money move last year.
The ex-Celtic player became the most expensive defender in the history of world football when Liverpool splashed £75m on him in January 2018.
He signed for the Reds from fellow Premier League club Southampton.
Van Dijk and De Ligt formed a good defensive partnership to help the Netherlands qualify for the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League.
