Matteo Guendouzi shocked the Gunners fans as he was seamlessly integrated into team’s starting XI by Unai Emery.
Despite his age and inexperience, the 19-year-old was given the nod to start and complete the matches against Manchester City and United, which ended in two back-to-back defeats for the team.
In their third match of the season against West Ham, Emery was smart enough to detect that the youngster — despite his brilliant individual performance — was leaving too much space for his partner Granit Xhaka to cover, therefore he replaced him with Uruguay international Lucas Torreira who helped the team to a 3-1 victory over the Hammers.
In the last three matches, the Frenchman always make way for Torreira and the Gunners are coincidentally on a three-match winning streak.
The Xhaka / Torreira partnership continues to blossom match after match and that could mean the end of Guendouzi’s desire to remain in the team’s starting XI.
What then does the future holds for the youngster?
Torriera will likely take Guendouzi’s place in the team but that’s doesn’t automatically stop the youngster from taking part in the team’s subsequent games.
However, he needs to work on his positional awareness as soon as possible, should he desire to reclaim his starting role in the team.
He must learn how to cover more ground and must also learn to play with his midfield’s partners.
Guendouzi is no doubt a great talent and he will surely come out good with time as long as he is ready to learn from his established teammates.
