Former Arsenal player Martin Keown feels Manchester United current boss Jose Mourinho is ‘holding his players back’ at the club, and he believes the Portuguese tactician need to learn from Man City boss Pep Guardiola.
Man United won Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 last Saturday in the premier league, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side bounced back triumphantly to beat Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Mourinho has been criticised for his side’s style of play against Liverpool and Tottenham, but considering Mauricio Pochettino’s approach to the Champions League game at the Wembley Stadium, some people feels Jose’s methods have been vindicated.
However, former Gunners defender Martin Keown has been less than impressed with Jose Mourinho’s performances in big games and he feels the Portuguese boss is not allowing his players reach their full potential.
Keown told the Daily Mail that despite Man United’s impressive stats, Mourinho is holding the boys back, unlike a team like Manchester City where ‘every player is able to express themselves’.
Pep Guardiola will be hosting Arsene Wenger’s side at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday after beating Napoli in the Champions League this week.
On the other hand, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea will be hosting Jose Mourinho’s side at Stamford Bridge following the 3-0 thrashing they received from Roma in Italy on Tuesday.
