Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk wants to play for Manchester City next season, despite keen interest from Chelsea, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has been tipped to leave the Saints next summer, after been watched by big clubs in the Premier League for two windows and the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be in the pursuit of his signature.

However, reports in Manchester Evening News claims that Van Dijk will prefer to play under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City due to the Spaniard’s philosophy.

It is understood that Guardiola is keen on adding reinforcement to his defence after seeing his side concede cheap goals this season and is thrilled by the Dutch defender’s solid displays for Southampton.

There are reports that Southampton will be reluctant to let the defender and will ask for an astronomical transfer fee before a deal can be thrashed.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is also keen on bringing van Dijk to Stamford Bridge as he hopes to bolster his squad despite their brilliant displays this season.

This news could also be a blow to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also reportedly considering a move for 25-year-old as he hopes to rejuvenate his squad next season.
