Manchester United contemplate signing £60m-rated star player as alternative to Chelsea midfielder

According to reports, Manchester United are contemplating a transfer for Marco Verratti as a potential alternative to signing unsettled Chelsea midfielder, Nemanja Matic.

Chelsea, who have already strengthened their midfielder with the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Ligue one club Monaco, are standing firm as Manchester United continue to lure the Serbia international midfielder.

United boss Jose Mourinho is also struggling to sign Eric Dier, his primary midfield target, as Spurs continue to refuse the Old Trafford club’s offers for the England international.

According to Daily Star, Manchester United have been forced to seek alternative options, with Verratti among the players being eyed.

Verratti confirmed earlier in the week that he has hired Super Agent Mino Raiola as his new representative, after falling out with his former advisor Donato Di Campli, who had claimed that the Italian was being held ‘prisoner’ at Paris Saint Germain following FC Barcelona’s interest.

Super Agent Raiola has been influential in Manchester United’s transfer business since Jose Mourinho took over at the club, as he represented striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, midfielder Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku in their transfers to Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, United manager Jose Mourinho declared that he would sign one more player this summer transfer window, after previously tasking Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward with bringing him, four new players.
