Craig Shakespeare has made it known that he and his Leicester City men taunt Riyad Mahrez after his unsuccessful attempt to seal a deadline day move away from the club.
There were lots of speculation that the talented player was pushing powerfully for a late move to Old Trafford this summer, having also been linked with other top sides including Arsenal, Chelsea and AS Roma at various times.
On the final day of the transfer window, the Algerian was said to have left the rest of his compatriots to fly into Europe so as to complete a last-minute transfer away from the King Power Stadium club. And Leicester City manager Shakespeare has now confirmed that the rumours were true.
The African player had submitted a transfer request earlier in the summer to Leicester, but the foxes were asking for somethig believed to be in the region of £50million for their star player – a price no club want to pay for him.
And speaking to the Daily Telegraph about the summer saga, Craig admits not to be comfortable with the thought of losing one of his best players during the summer transfer window, and that the squad were calling Mahrez ‘Tom Hanks’ when he returned back to the King Power Stadium for the new season.
Riyad was also linked with a move away from the club last summer after his superb form helped Leicester win the premier league title. He was also rewarded with the PFA Player of the Year Award that season, but struggled to find his form last term.
