Real Madrid have warned off Manchester United about approaching midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to reports.
The Red Devils are in dire need of a central midfielder and have been linked with several targets this summer as Jose Mourinho plans to better his side’s performance next season.
Prior reports suggested that United are considering a move for the Croatian midfielder who is said to eyeing a move from the Santiago Bernabeu due to his reduced role under Zinedine Zidane last season.
However, it is understood that Zidane has told the club hierachy that Kovacic will feature in his plans next season and should not sanction a sale while Manchester United circle.
Reports in Spanish outlet Diario Madridsta claim that Real Madrid told United that the midfielder is not for sale during their friendly meeting in California, United States last Sunday.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that Real Madrid have continued negotiations with the representatives of United goalkeeper, David De Gea over a possible move.
Despite Jose Mourinho’s recent comments that the keeper will not leaving Manchester United after giving him an initial opportunity to speak with the Spanish giants this summer.
De Gea is said to be open to a move to Real Madrid but will not force a move following his failed move to the Bernabeu in 2015 that was halted due to a reported fax machine error.
