Jordi Alba

Manchester United’s desperate need for a defender is looking more obvious by the day as they move round in search of a defender ahead of the winter transfer window which opens in coming months.

This time around, they have turned their attention to Barcelona defender Jordi Alba and they are reported to have made a first approach for the Spanish defender.

Manager Jose Mourinho has shown without apology that he has no fate in his defenders with his noise about adding options at the back. Luke Shaw is also not in his best form which makes it easy for the Portuguese to make a decision.

The former Chelsea boss is of the opinion that the coming of the Barcelona man will add quality to his defence knowing that the 29-year-old has played at big stages and has gathered all the needed experience to execute the job at the Old Trafford.

Jordi has a contract at the Camp Nou until 2020 but he has got a release clause of about £100 million which will be the only hindrance for the Red Devils with Mourinho reported to have the sum of £100 million for the winter transfer market.

However, there is only a slim chance for Barcelona to let Jordi leave as they are yet to secure a replacement for him.
