Premier League side Liverpool took a huge step towards solving their defensive problem in the winter with the signing of central defender Virgil van Dijk, now they could fix their problem between the sticks too.
Defensive issues all season
It has been a big issue for the side, as while they’ve netted 61 goals in 27 English Premier League matches so far this campaign, they’ve also let in 31 goals in that period making them the club with the second-worst defensive record of all the top seven teams.
Below par performances from duo
Manager Jurgen Klopp has switched severally between Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius over the past two years, with the Karius now a regular starter.
However, both safe hands have been guilty of unforgivable mistakes, and so a new shot-stopper could bring more solidity and consistency in defense.
Solution identified
Roma shot-stopper Alisson looks to be a possible solution, with UOL Esporte now reporting that the Reds have an advantage over French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Champions League holders Real Madrid in the transfer race to land the Brazilian international.
It’s suggested that he sees the Merseysiders as his first choice destination with negotiations at an ‘advanced’ stage, and so that surely paints a positive picture from a Liverpool point of view.
