Since Javier Mascherano left Anfield to Barcelona some years ago, Liverpool are yet to find an outstanding replacement for the Argentine international.

He was a rock solid for Liverpool when Rafael Benitez was still boss at Anfield, and he chose to leave for Spain as soon as Benitez left the club.

At Camp Nou, the South American star has won every major trophy with the La Liga club and has become one of the most important members at Barcelona.

Meanwhile, at Liverpool, England international Jordan Henderson is the main holding midfielder at the club currently, and if truth be told, it is glaring that the skipper is not a specialised play breaker.

If Jurgen Klopp want to compete for the top trophies in the second half of the season, the German manager must utilise the January transfer window to reinforce his team, and it appears lots of things are currently going on at the backstage.

According to new reports, Javier has three offers on the table from three different clubs, and surprisingly, Liverpool are one of them.

Mascherano has mainly played in the central defense at Barcelona, but he has mainly warmed the bench this season so far, and it was suggested he would love a move.

His current contract with the La Liga giants will expire in 2019 and it has a release clause of £89million.

But considering that he is getting to 34, Barca will definitely allow him to leave for less.
